Hi, Iām Jill.
I've always felt a pull toward ceramics. I put off taking classes for many years as I heard stories from folks I knew about the difficulty and skill required even to get started. After moving to New Mexico in 2018, I was in a very challenging period of life. To keep my sanity, I began taking classes at a local studio.
Classes quickly led to studio time, studio time led to rabbit holes to learn more, rabbit holes then led to... the pandemic. Everything came to a screeching halt. I prepared for months of solitary confinement, but the thought of not spending time on the wheel for an unknown amount of time was heartbreaking. I purchased a wheel and a used dinosaur of a Duncan kiln (which I still have and love!) and created space for wedging and processing.
Through all of the chaos & churn the last few years have brought, I've found that I can quiet my mind through shaping mud.
Every piece proves to be a new challenge. I never want to stop learning. I hope some of my pieces can bring happiness to others for many years to come.
